A The Togyo-sai:Ritual transferring Shinto God from the place of enshrinement
The Togyo-sai is a ritual that transfers the Shinto God from the place of enshrinement by means of portable shrine (Mikoshi), and is composed of 3 Shinto rituals, the Hatsuyo-sai, the Tojouhouhei-sai, and the Chakuyo-sai. The ritual starts from Atago Yasaka Shinto Shrine (Main Shrine), parading through 8 old Kumagaya neighborhoods, and purifying 4 points at the north, south, east, and west ends of the area. The parade ends at the temporary shed that houses God for the festival (Okariya or Angu), set at Omatsuri Hiroba. The Mikoshi is carried by 100 young Tobis (scaffolders) from each neighborhood wearing a white costume, and are sent off by chanters, participants, and speculators. Along the way, Mikoshi is met by taiko drummers from each neighborhood.
