G The Nenban Okuri : Transferring the role of representative of the year to the next neighborhood
The Kangyo-sai is a ritual that restores the Shinto God from the temporary shed housing God for the festival (Okariya) to the place of enshrinement, and is composed of 2 Shinto rituals, the Hatsuyo-sai and the Chakuyo-sai. Just before midnight, festival officials gather at Okariya once again to hold the Hatsuyo-sai ritual. At midnight, 300 members of Kumagaya Gion Society carries the portable shrine (Mikoshi) on their shoulder, to the place of the enshrinement. The last ritual, “Chakuyo-sai” is held at the place of enshrinement, and all of the 3 days festival events concludes.
